Isaiah 45:1 (NET) New English Translation

1 This is what the LORD says to his chosen one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I hold in order to subdue nations before him, and disarm kings, to open doors before him, so gates remain unclosed:
2 "I will go before you and level mountains. Bronze doors I will shatter and iron bars I will hack through.
3 I will give you hidden treasures, riches stashed away in secret places, so you may recognize that I am the LORD, the one who calls you by name, the God of Israel.
4 For the sake of my servant Jacob, Israel, my chosen one, I call you by name and give you a title of respect, even though you do not recognize me.
5 I am the LORD, I have no peer, there is no God but me. I arm you for battle, even though you do not recognize me.
6 I do this so people will recognize from east to west that there is no God but me; I am the LORD, I have no peer.
7 I am the one who forms light and creates darkness; the one who brings about peace and creates calamity. I am the LORD, who accomplishes all these things.
8 O sky, rain down from above! Let the clouds send down showers of deliverance! Let the earth absorb it so salvation may grow, and deliverance may sprout up along with it. I, the LORD, create it.
9 One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter, "What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!"
10 Danger awaits one who says to his father, "What in the world are you fathering?" and to his mother, "What in the world are you bringing forth?"
11 This is what the LORD says, the Holy One of Israel, the one who formed him, concerning things to come: "How dare you question me about my children! How dare you tell me what to do with the work of my own hands!
12 I made the earth, I created the people who live on it. It was me— my hands stretched out the sky, I give orders to all the heavenly lights.
13 It is me— I stir him up and commission him; I will make all his ways level. He will rebuild my city; he will send my exiled people home, but not for a price or a bribe," says the LORD who commands armies.
14 This is what the LORD says: "The profit of Egypt and the revenue of Ethiopia, along with the Sabeans, those tall men, will be brought to you and become yours. They will walk behind you, coming along in chains. They will bow down to you and pray to you: 'Truly God is with you; he has no peer; there is no other God!'"
15 Yes, you are a God who keeps hidden, O God of Israel, deliverer!
16 They will all be ashamed and embarrassed; those who fashion idols will all be humiliated.
17 Israel will be delivered once and for all by the LORD; you will never again be ashamed or humiliated.
18 For this is what the LORD says, the one who created the sky— he is the true God, the one who formed the earth and made it; he established it, he did not create it without order, he formed it to be inhabited— "I am the LORD, I have no peer.
19 I have not spoken in secret, in some hidden place. I did not tell Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain!' I am the LORD, the one who speaks honestly, who makes reliable announcements.
20 Gather together and come! Approach together, you refugees from the nations! Those who carry wooden idols know nothing, those who pray to a god that cannot deliver.
21 Tell me! Present the evidence! Let them consult with one another! Who predicted this in the past? Who announced it beforehand? Was it not I, the LORD? I have no peer, there is no God but me, a God who vindicates and delivers; there is none but me.
22 Turn to me so you can be delivered, all you who live in the earth's remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer.
23 I solemnly make this oath— what I say is true and reliable: 'Surely every knee will bow to me, every tongue will solemnly affirm;
24 they will say about me, "Yes, the LORD is a powerful deliverer."'" All who are angry at him will cower before him.
25 All the descendants of Israel will be vindicated by the LORD and will boast in him.

2 I H589 PPRO-1MS will go H1980 VQY1MS before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , and make the crooked places straight H3474 : I will break in pieces H7665 the gates H1817 of brass H5154 NFS , and cut in sunder H1438 the bars H1280 of iron H1270 :
3 And I will give H5414 thee the treasures H214 of darkness H2822 NMS , and hidden riches H4301 of secret places H4565 , that H4616 L-CONJ thou mayest know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS , the LORD H3068 EDS , which call H7121 thee by thy name H8034 , am the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 LMS .
4 For Jacob H3290 my servant\'s sake H4616 L-CONJ , and Israel H3478 mine elect H972 , I have even called H7121 thee by thy name H8034 : I have surnamed H3655 thee , though thou hast not H3808 W-NPAR known H3045 me .
5 I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS , and there is none H369 W-NPAR else H5750 ADV , there is no H369 NPAR God H430 EDP beside H2108 me : I girded H247 thee , though thou hast not H3808 W-NPAR known H3045 me :
6 That H4616 L-CONJ they may know H3045 from the rising H4217 of the sun H8121 , and from the west H4628 , that H3588 CONJ there is none H657 beside H1107 me . I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS , and there is none H369 W-NPAR else H5750 ADV .
7 I form H3335 the light H216 NMS , and create H1254 darkness H2822 NMS : I make H6213 VQPMS peace H7965 NMS , and create H1254 evil H7451 AMS : I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS do H6213 VQPMS all H3605 CMS these H428 DPRO things .
8 Drop down H7491 , ye heavens H8064 NMP , from above H4605 , and let the skies H7834 pour down H5140 VQY3MP righteousness H6664 NMS : let the earth H776 GFS open H6605 , and let them bring forth H6509 salvation H3468 , and let righteousness H6666 spring up H6779 together H3162 ADV ; I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS have created H1254 it .
9 Woe H1945 unto him that striveth H7378 with H854 his Maker H3335 ! Let the potsherd H2789 NMS strive with H854 the potsherds H2789 of the earth H127 . 10 Woe H1945 unto him that saith H559 unto his father H1 , What H4100 IPRO begettest H3205 thou ? or to the woman H802 , What H4100 IPRO hast thou brought forth H2342 ?
11 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , the Holy One H6918 of Israel H3478 , and his Maker H3335 , Ask H7592 me of things to come H857 concerning H5921 PREP my sons H1121 , and concerning H5921 PREP the work H6467 of my hands H3027 command H6680 ye me .
12 I H595 PPRO-1MS have made H6213 VQQ1MS the earth H776 GFS , and created H1254 man H120 W-NMS upon H5921 PREP-3FS it : I H589 PPRO-1MS , even my hands H3027 , have stretched out H5186 the heavens H8064 NMP , and all H3605 W-CMS their host H6635 have I commanded H6680 .

14 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , The labor H3018 CMS of Egypt H4714 EFS , and merchandise H5505 of Ethiopia H3568 EMS and of the Sabeans H5436 , men H376 CMP of stature H4060 , shall come over H5674 VQY3MP unto H5921 thee , and they shall be H1961 thine : they shall come H1980 after H310 thee ; in chains H2131 BD-NMP they shall come over H5674 VQY3MP , and they shall fall down H7812 unto H413 thee , they shall make supplication H6419 unto H413 thee , saying , Surely H389 ADV God H410 EDS is in thee ; and there is none H369 W-NPAR else H5750 ADV , there is no H657 God H430 NAME-4MP .
15 Verily H403 ADV thou H859 PPRO-2MS art a God H410 EDS that hidest thyself H5641 , O God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , the Savior H3467 .
16 They shall be ashamed H954 , and also H1571 confounded H3637 , all H3605 CMS-3MP of them : they shall go H1980 VQQ3MP to confusion H3639 together H3162 ADV-3MS that are makers H2796 of idols H6736 .
17 But Israel H3478 shall be saved H3467 in the LORD H3068 with an everlasting H5769 salvation H8668 : ye shall not H3808 NADV be ashamed H954 VQY2MP nor H3808 W-NADV confounded H3637 world without end H5704 PREP .
18 For H3588 CONJ thus H3541 saith H559 the LORD H3068 EDS that created H1254 the heavens H8064 D-NMD ; God H430 D-EDP himself H1931 PPRO-3MS that formed H3335 the earth H776 D-GFS and made H6213 it ; he H1931 PPRO-3MS hath established H3559 it , he created H1254 it not H3808 NADV in vain H8414 , he formed H3335 it to be inhabited H3427 L-VQFC : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS ; and there is none H369 W-NPAR else H5750 ADV .
19 I have not H3808 NADV spoken H1696 VPQ1MS in secret H5643 , in a dark H2822 NMS place H4725 B-CMS of the earth H776 GFS : I said H559 VQQ1MS not H3808 NADV unto the seed H2233 of Jacob H3290 , Seek H1245 ye me in vain H8414 NMS : I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS speak H1696 VQPMS righteousness H6664 NMS , I declare H5046 VHPMS things that are right H4339 .
20 Assemble yourselves H6908 and come H935 ; draw near H5066 together H3162 ADV-3MS , ye that are escaped H6412 of the nations H1471 D-NMP : they have no knowledge H3045 VQQ3MP that set up H5375 the wood H6086 NMS of their graven image H6459 , and pray H6419 unto H413 PREP a god H410 EDS that cannot H3808 NADV save H3467 .
21 Tell H5046 ye , and bring them near H5066 ; yea H637 CONJ , let them take counsel H3289 together H3162 ADV-3MS : who H4310 IPRO hath declared H8085 this H2063 DPRO from ancient time H6924 M-NMS ? who hath told H5046 it from that time H227 ? have not H3808 D-NPAR I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS ? and there is no H369 W-ADV God H430 EDP else H5750 ADV beside H1107 me ; a just H6662 AMS God H410 NMS and a Savior H3467 ; there is none H369 ADV beside H2108 me .
22 Look H6437 VQI2MP unto H413 PREP-1MS me , and be ye saved H3467 , all H3605 NMS the ends H657 of the earth H776 NFS : for H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am God H410 EDS , and there is none H369 W-NPAR else H5750 ADV .
23 I have sworn H7650 by myself , the word H1697 VQPMS is gone out H3318 VQQ3MS of my mouth H6310 M-CMS in righteousness H6666 NFS , and shall not H3808 W-NPAR return H7725 VQY3MS , That H3588 CONJ unto me every H3605 NMS knee H1290 shall bow H3766 , every H3605 NMS tongue H3956 shall swear H7650 .
24 Surely H389 ADV , shall one say H559 VQQ3MS , in the LORD H3068 have I righteousness H6666 and strength H5797 : even to H5704 him shall men come H935 VQY3MS ; and all H3605 NMS that are incensed H2734 against him shall be ashamed H954 .
25 In the LORD H3068 shall all H3605 NMS the seed H2233 NMS of Israel H3478 LMS be justified H6663 , and shall glory H1984 .
